The Girl Who Killed Her Baby at Her Prom

In June of 1997, Melissa Drexler went shopping for elegant prom dresses with her friends. Like a typical teen, she planned to attend prom with her boyfriend. Everything appeared fine on the surface.

But underneath the veneer of normalcy, Melissa was secretly 9 months pregnant. She concealed this fact from her closest friends, her family, and even her boyfriend — the father of the baby on the way. Not a soul was aware of her pregnancy.

Luckily for her, she wasn’t “showing” as much as pregnant women typically do, and hiding the pregnancy wasn’t a challenge.

So when she arrived at prom on June 6th, no one suspected that she could go into labor at any moment. But lo and behold, only 20 minutes into the dance, her stomach cramps became unbearable. Her contractions erupted in full force.

She surreptitiously went to the bathroom and delivered the baby rather quickly, without anyone witnessing or hearing.

But she had no desire to keep the baby and she was determined to remove any evidence that the baby had ever existed. So she lifted the newborn baby from the toilet bowl, severed his umbilical cord using the…
